A House for Donfinkle

I came across the totally delightful A House for Donfinkle at the launch during the recent CBCA Conference in Canberra. New author Choechoe Brereton was so gorgeous during her speech that I was sold, and a signed copy came home with me.

A House for Donfinkle is as utterly delightful as Choechoe Brereton! A rollicking, tongue twizzling tale with delicious echoes of Suess, Dahl and Dickens, with fabulous illustrations by Wayne Harris, who only tells us somewhat cryptically that the illustrations are digital creations.

Who can fail to fall heavily for character names like Donfinkle Vonkrinkle? And we meet a flooble, a mooble and a blooble!

There are wonderful neologisms like shobbly and they make perfect sense in context.

A House for Donfinkle  is an extraordinary, sparkling gem that teaches kids the importance of sticking to your guns and standing up for your taste in a fun, rhyming, and non-preachy way. Adults will recognise the dangers of committees, and the beauty and simplicity of a singular vision.  I can't believe that this is Choechoe's first book, and I can't wait to see what she does next.
