In January I had a lovely few days in Sydney. We took in the Sydney Festival and the Lynley Dodd Retrospective at the State Library of NSW. We also ate a few things.
One day we made a special detour to Woollahra to go to the new Laduree store. It's the second Laduree outlet in Sydney, and a bit easier to get to than the Westfield store in the city.
It's like a little corner of Paris in Sydney. |
So pretty. And you're allowed to take photos! |
We couldn't buy the treasure chest of 200 macarons this day |
We may have come away with some goodies though |

Sadly you can't just eat macarons all the time, as much as you might want to. One day I took Master Wicker and a nephew for vegan yum cha at Bodhi Restaurant. I didn't manage to take many pictures, I think the boys were gobbling too quickly as soon as food hit the table.
It was pretty good, better than I was expecting but I do prefer carnivore yum cha |

This day was rather hot, and after baking at Sydney Festival we headed off to Gelato Messina in Surry Hills. Sydney has many excellent purveyors of gelato, this was my first visit to Gelato Messina. It won't be my last.

There are 6 Sydney locations, 1 in Melbourne, 1 on the Gold Coast, and soon to be a store in Las Vegas.
Another first for me was a visit to Bourke St Bakery in Alexandria for breakfast one day.

I hadn't been to see Adriano Zumbo in ages, so I made a quick stop at the Rozelle store on my way home.

Oh yum - I didn't realise there was another store now. I had tea, cake and macarons recently in the Westfield one, but the atmosphere rather lacks that Parisian charm.
Reading your post is making me hungry! All that food looks delicious!
How fun-the only Lauderee is in NYC-so I never get to visit it. You always seek out great food-I will be in Montreal and made dinner rsvp with my brother at Pied du Cochon (feet of the pig) I had to laugh he said that I have an interesting palate. and do not eat plain food. it should be fun.
Yummy post!!

Oh gosh, it's early in the morning but now I want a ginger brulee tart! What a great food city; I hope to get there some day.
This is certainly one of the things I love about visiting blogs from other parts of the world. I am traveling vicariously by looking at all those wonderful photos. What a cool festival!
As much as I love the sweet things, I am really drooling over the ham and cheese toastie. Delicious post!
Thanks for sharing...and for visiting my blog.
LaDurée in Queen street Woollahra! Wow! My gran lived in Woollahra for years and years (basically for ever) in Jersey Rd so very close to Queen street and I know the area well. How wonderful to have real French macarons in Sydney. I saw your comment on Esme's blog Chocolate & Croissants that you'd have liked to have linked up with my linky #AllAboutFrance but it had closed. Well you should be pleased to hear it hasn't! It's open for a week each time so it'll be open till Wed evening (France time). Please do link up, we'd love to have you there. The more the merrier!
The food in your posts are amazing. I have never tasted a macaron, like those pictures. They look absolutely scrumptious. I have tasted vegemite a long time ago, cannot imagine it in a macaron. But what do I know?
I love to visit Sydney with you as my guide! Also, do they actually use the term Yum Cha and not Dim Sum as they do here? Yum Cha is more authentic, actual translation from Cantonese. Literal meaning: drink tea. Gelato and macarons are wonderful too. Another enticing post, Louise!
I don't know what looks better - the macaron, the creme brule or basically everything else! What a yummy looking post!
Fabulous photographs, it does look like Paris on the corner. Love the treasure chest. Can't imagine the cost.:) Even the Ham and Cheese Toastie looks yummy.
The Lauduree store is gorgeous -- a treat for eyes, nose, and mouth and so elegant. It definitely looks like a little corner of Paris. I enjoyed your photos of other delicious dishes too. Yummy! I think I gained another three pounds just by looking at them.
Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment.

I lived in Sydney for 6 weeks around the 2000 Olympics and I so miss the food there! The yum cha in particular looks amazing.
Drooling over here. You're lucky to have a Laduree shop you can visit. That gelato looks so good too!
What a beautiful shop, your photos are lovely.
I really need to make a ham and cheese toastee! Boy, Sydney has changed since we were there years and years ago.
Mouth watering… yum!
Before I read I did think that you must be in Paris.
awesome post, I'm drooling over macarons and gelato. Gelato places are sadly lacking southside Brisbane but we do have good yum cha :)
What a mouth-watering post! Yum, everything looks so good! Thanks for sharing.

These all look tasty! I'll have to try some of these places the next time we are in Sydney.

Ladurée is getting very international it seems. They do know how to outfit their shops. I was very surprised to find the Ladurée on the Champs Elysées in Paris at the corner of Rue Lincoln where I used to work, as it was not there then but the shop looks very old. I asked and they told me it had been there not that long but made to look old. I hope that with their getting big they won’t change like Godiva chocolates. My last box of Godiva was awful. I called them and found out that the original Godiva in Belgium had sold out and now the New York office had “changed the formula for American palates” meaning more sugar, less chocolate, no alcoholic flavors, etc. to make it taste like an average drug store chocolate – what a shame. They changed the formula according to the “palate” they told me, such as another formula for the “Asian Palate” so how can they still remain Belgian? The boxes still say “Belgian Chocolates” but that was a long time ago!
