The Murals of Takaka

Over Christmas and New Year I had a wonderful holiday to New Zealand (although every holiday to New Zealand is a wonderful holiday). One of the highlights of this trip was a visit to Golden Bay. Takaka is the main town in Golden Bay. It's a remote place, and has a strong history as an artistic and alternative community.

I've already shown you the nearby Farewell Spit, and some of the Panoramas of New Zealand were of the Golden Bay area.

Takaka township has many wonderful murals. The largest is at Takaka Village Green.

It's big. Really big. Too big for one photo.

It's fabulous.

If Narnia was in Takaka

Most of the blank walls in town are livened up

by wonderful murals

in various styles

Saturday Snapshot, is a wonderful weekly meme from at home with books

Is this on the North or South Island? Daughter and son-in-law lived and worked on North Island in 2007 & 2008. I don't remember this place name but the murals are indeed beautiful works of art. I love the playful nature and warm colours.

Narnia would be Tanaka. We have an artist here Wyland who does murals.

NZ, so close yet so far! I'd love to return there sometime. Your posts of the landscape and now these murals are inspiriring. I love the design and colours of the first mural. Thanks, Louise.

That is so much nicer to look at than blank walls. I can just imagine that huge group of people painting away.

That mural is gorgeous! I like that it has depth to the picture - so often they look two-dimensional, but that one doesn't.
