Birds in the Botanic Gardens

Last week you saw the lovely flowers that caught my eye on a recent walk in my local Botanic Gardens-and which were much easier to photograph than these birds. Bird photography is HARD! Still it's fun to try and exciting when I accidentally get something in focus.

Eastern Spinebill- Acanthorhynchus tenuirostris

Yellow-faced Honeyeater- Lichenostomus chrysops

Eastern Rosella- Platycercus eximius

Juvenile Crimson Rosella- Platycercus elegans elegans

Eastern Rosella- Platycercus eximius

Eastern Rosella- Platycercus eximius
I kept a careful eye out for the Magpies, thankfully none were swooping this day

Australian Magpie- Gymnorhina tibicen

Red-browed Finch- Neochmia temporalis

Sometimes you just need to keep an eye out for the quieter types

Pacific Black Duck- Anas superciliosa

This pair were busy renovating a nest in this sawn off branch
Galah- Cacatua roseicapilla

Another pair busy preening

Galah- Cacatua roseicapilla

Saturday Snapshot, is a wonderful weekly meme from at home with books.

These are fantastic Louise! I tried to photograph some parrots in a gum tree the other night and it was impossible!

Thanks Vicki.

Thanks Janine- it does help having a photographer husband and being able to borrow a massive lens and a 2x converter, and then you still need to crop it.

Your photos aren't showing up for me. I see black boxes with a symbol in the middle. I don't know if it's me or if it's you.

I'm seeing a lot of black boxes too but the photos that do show up are gorgeous!

The photos aren't showing up for me either. Black boxes with a white line. Bummer. Here's Mine

I'm really not sure what is going on with the black box, white line thing. It's happening for me in some (older) posts, I haven't seen it happen at all for this one. I hope it's a gremlin that will somehow fix itself- because I've trawled around the help pages and can't find anything!

When I first looked I could only see one photo. I waited and came back and now I see more.

I have a friend who takes photographs of birds all of the time and I ask her, "What kind is that?"

It's become a running gag, of sorts, because she knows only slightly more about species than I and I know nearly nothing. So I ask and she responds, "Ummm . . . it's a brown bird."

I'll come back later and hopefully see more photos and not black boxes.

Gorgeous birds! We have very few birds with lots of color here in North America. I'm so envious that you can find them in the botanic gardens.

The first time I saw a Rosella in person in the wild (actually a flock of them) I was transfixed, they were so pretty. My friends I was visiting were amused and said they were naughty birds who were eating all the apricots off the tree. Ahhh.

Sadly, I'm also seeing black boxes. I'll check back later.

Those are gorgeous bird photos! Such variety of birds - and I'm really impressed that you knew what they are.

I never seem to have my camera handy when I see a bird. These are great shots!

The pictures aren't showing up for me right now either. I'll have to come back and try again.

I'm running late on posting this week...but I have a really good reason.

Sorry everyone, I think I had inadvertently created a problem in picasaweb (which I didn't actually realise that I used, but it's where blogger stores the pictures). I think it's fixed now, and hopefully everyone will be able to see them from now on.

Paulita said...

Wow. Thanks for letting me know that you got the photo issue fixed so I could come back. Amazing photos.

I'm so glad you got the photos fixed. I would have hated to miss out on the awesome bird pix! Especially the Rosellas!

They're all beautiful! I just love watching birds.

Bird photography is hard ... but you have some beauties here Louise. Love the magpie hiding in the pine (I think it is?)

When I travel, I am always interested to see the different varieties of birds. Probably there are many which seem common to you that would be exotic to my eyes.

Love this post and the photos!
