As we must appear to the hawk #2

I've always loved looking out of plane windows, down at the world below. Reading Alain de Botton's The Art of Travel last year confirmed it, and helped me start this series of plane window visions. These are from a recent flight from Launceston to Melbourne.

Tasmania is famous for rugged mountains

and verdant valleys

I caught just a glimpse of the Tamar River

and the Northern Tasmanian coastline

before coming in to a stormy afternoon in Melbourne

Saturday Snapshot, is a wonderful weekly meme from at home with books

That coastline shot is gorgeous! I'm always afraid that the flight attendants are going to yell at me for having an electronic device out when I'm not supposed to, so I haven't taken many flying pictures.

Those are great! You got some awesome shots. I rarely sit by the window, and when I do there's usually a wing or something in my way.

The view from an airplane is always so mesmerizing. I love to have my camera ready when I'm flying.

The last two times my husband and I went for a walk, there was a hawk circling above. There are spans of openness, large yards without trees that buttress one another creating hunting fields and another field that is city property, undeveloped but not allowed to overgrow into wildness. So this hawk has two areas that are at the center and at the southwest edge of our perimeter to circle in hopes of seeing something edible. It must be good feeding territory because it is often at one or the other.

I love looking through plane windows too - the world looks like an imaginary toy. Lovely photos.

At least that's stormy and not smoggy. Beautiful pictures!

I love the patchwork quilt look of the valleys. Yes, it nice you didn't have a wing in the way. Seems that's always what blocks my view.

I imagine that snapping shots from plane windows would be a great distraction from "fear of flying."

I love looking at the images below.

Thanks for sharing.

I love the idea of compiling photos taken from way up high!
I pout for the whole plane ride if I don't get the window seat!

The coastline and the valleys are my favourite pics of this collection, yet they're all so interesting.
On our rare holidays, I try to get a window seat so we can take pictures. I got some of fluffy clouds and the tapestry below. For another Saturday.

I love the window view from an airplane as well!! I've been on a couple of flights where the pilot actually pointed out a few of the particular sights for us :) That's not the norm though. But, wouldn't that be cool?

Thanks everyone for your comments. I don't always sit by the windows now, but do prefer it on short flights. I go for an aisle seat on the long hauls (whenever I'm lucky enough to take a long haul flight).

Alyce- I don't think cameras count as electronic equipment, they don't transmit anything, so don't see how they'd be a problem. They never mention them.

Peppermint- it would be fantastic if they did that more often. It's easy to know where you are if it's a local flight, but if you're away from home it's tricky. I'd love to know what some of the things I saw between Houston and LA were. I still have no idea.
