Paris Parking

Mercifully, I've never driven in Paris. I have helped navigate a car through Paris though, both before GPS and with the use of a GPS- frightening enough of itself. So I've never had to park a car in Paris, but have admired many solutions to the never ending problem of where to park.

I have no idea how they get in or out

Sometimes a crowd gathers to watch/help
You just have to park where you can
At least you don't have to worry about the bollards

And corners are a great place to park
Dreaming of France is a wonderful Monday meme

I haven't been to France but I found the same terrifying driving and parking in Italy. I was content to stay a passenger and never even thought to give it a try. I watched a few scary parking attempts too! If I ever get to Paris, I'll know what to expect.

Louise, I think the cars are so tiny in case you need to pick them up and move them. I'll stick with public transportation. Here’s my Dreaming of France meme

Their parking jobs are interesting. Moral of the story is to always get a smaller rental. I once got a US mid sized and so regretted parking that monster.

I love those ones where someone has driven a tiny little smart car bonnet first into a parallel parking spot - so cunning!

I remember being astounded by the parking in both Paris and Rome! At one point the tour bus we were on couldn't get around a corner because of the way that the cars were park so he just got some of the guys to get our and physically move it and then put it back once the bus was around the corner!

I never drove in Paris but got very good at parking in Lyon and learned that you never engage the parking brake when you park so people can move your car. We did ride with a French friend in Paris and he bumped the car in front and back as he parked. He told us that's why they put bumpers on cars.

Yikes! I'm glad we didn't attempt to drive in Paris. I'd never be able to stop and get out of the car!

Ha ha - Paris parking is not dissimilar to parking in Balmain!!
Great pics.

I love how you've highlighted lots of quirky things from your trip :-)

Impossible.

(One of these days I really must take photos of the ridiculously huge trucks my fellow Texans drive. Very odd.

You want to know how? They all leave their handbrakes off when they park so they can push each other out of the way. Socially acceptable behaviour. I love the French :)
