Foods That Shouldn't be Deep Fried #1- Cheesecake

A few months ago I was lucky enough to be able to attend my first ever Royal Easter Show in Sydney. It was a day full of fun and surprises in many ways. I didn't notice the sign as we walked past. Luckily my sister has eagle eyes for such things. I was drawn like a moth to a flame.

I had to look

And then I knew I had to do it. I had to buy one. I expected it to be awful (let's face it most food at the show is). I was fully prepared to throw away both the deep fried cheesecake and my $8. And for reasons I still don't understand I asked for the chocolate instead of the strawberry.

And it does look like a heart attack on a (plastic) plate. But you know what it wasn't too bad!  I'm no world authority on inappropriately deep fried delicacies, but I'm certainly thinking of adding this as a subspecialty interest. I've only ever had a deep fried Moro bar in New Zealand (which was awful). This deep fried cheesecake was actually much better than I was expecting. Edible even.

I think it was a bit of frozen Sara Lee cheesecake in another life before being dunked in quite a sweet batter for its deep frying adventure.

Yes, I agree, no deep fried cheesecake for me...add that to the list of deep fried oreos...I never understood that one either.

This is exactly the kind of thing that I'd nag my friends to buy if I was at such a show, on the basis that "I'm lactose intolerant"... and then I'd eat at least half of it when they gave up.

Is it onna stick??? Oh my gosh, I feel like I would probably try almost anything deep fried and onna stick, sad isn't it? In any case, it looks...strangely delicious in a state fair sort of way :)

Ha!!!! You are very brave. I don't think I would have gone for it. But I am so glad you tried it for us.

Actually it looks like something you can get here in the Netherlands too. Oliebollen which are deep fried balls of some kind of batter. They stuff them with all kinds of things and we mostly eat on New Years eve and at fairs. I'm not a really great fan, but it can be quite good if it is made the right way.

It seems like this idea of deep frying things is being taken as a sport. I've seen deep friend candy bars and, of course, twinkies. Cheesecake is a first. I'd be willing to try a bite of it though, just to taste it. Fun post Louise.

Fair Food, as I call it, does not tend to be healthy, that is for sure. But these deep fries things do not hold a lot of appeal for me really.
well, except for some fries.
classic.

Oh my! That looks awful. But you know, I love cheesecake and I probably would have tried it too!

Mostly the things on my deep-fried list are french fries and fried dough. :<)

At the KY state fair this year they're offering deep-fried Derby pie. Derby pie is a chocolate and walnut tart in a pie shell. It is also commonly made with pecans, chocolate chips and Kentucky bourbon. It's pretty sickly sweet to begin with. I can't imagine it deep-fried. You can also get a cheeseburger with glazed donuts instead of a bun.

deep fried cheesecake? I don't think I've come across that but then I haven't been checking out food kiosks at malls. Lolz. It looks delicious. Thanks for visiting.

I'm not a fan of fried food, but I do agree that it's worth trying anything once. Only once in some cases! Fun post!

I heard the deep-fried butter thing this summer, too. I'd go for cheesecake before I'd go for butter!

Susan I would certainly not be able to walk past Deep Fried Derby Pie now! A cheeseburger with donuts just sounds disgusting. I think shows in Australia or state fairs in the US is the place to find this sort of delicacy, whilst in Texas recently I heard of Deep Fried Beer, and Deep Fried Bubblegum! Nice to know that the Netherlands has it's own equivalents too Uniflame.
