Mr Wicker is a photographer. A pretty damn good one too. On our last trip to Europe in 2010 he took a big camera body and several lenses, and he took great photos, but it was big and heavy to lug around. This time he took his little Fuji X100 to simplify things. But the results were still big. Wherever we were.

I first heard that phrase, "busman's holiday," last week at the writing retreat. A journalism professor took our journalism class, telling us she was taking a "busman's holiday." She had to explain the phrase to us.

There should be an equally apropos phrase for a person who is a very bad amateur commenting on the work of a master. A phrase that covers the feeling I have in my heart when I see photographs like this, that explains the mix of awe and envy.
The black and white images certainly darken the overall mood. I love them though.
