Sydney Harbour Bridge is 80!

An event so stupendous that Google devoted their banner to it on Monday March 19.

Happily I was in Sydney last weekend, gazing at her with wonder. It's always a special moment. I must have seen the bridge hundreds of times if not thousands- I lived in Sydney for 10 years, and have lived most of my life a mere few hours drive away. I still get a thrill every time I see that beautiful harbour. Whatever time of day, or night.

My view as I sat eating amazing oysters at Kenji (at the side of the Opera House). Topped with salmon roe and ponzu sauce. Absolutely delicious.

And sipping some lovely Aussie bubbles of course.

Saturday Snapshot, is a wonderful weekly meme from at home with books

The oysters I can do without, but the plating of them is beautiful--and that harbor photo is stupendous. I wish I could visit it someday.

We have special memories of the bridge. My nan and pop honetmooned in Sydney back in 1932 and went to the grand opening ceremony and walked across the bridge.

75 years later, on the anniversary, my parents, myself, husband and 2 stepsons did the walk again with thousands of other people - very special.

Thanks for sharing your memories :-)

I'm not particularly fond of oysters but they do look lovely in the photo.

The harbor is beautiful! Someday I hope to tour Sydney. I did get a nice look at the airport when I changed planes on my way to Melbourne.

Terrific picture[s].
But especially the bridge [I'm not much of a seafood eater].
Wow, memories of the Olympic Games and all the fireworks that were shooting off like crazy from that bridge. I fell in love with Sydney during the 2000 Games.
-- Cheers!

Love the bridge shot, but unfortunately oysters don't like me very much. :(

Louise- What a GREAT SHOT of the bridge! Thanks for sharing (I have never been there.) I am an oyster lover too! That is a great plate shot. To sit with a plate of oysters and that view must have been heaven on earth :)

The meal looks delicious and the shot of the bridge looks like something one would see in a travel book of "must see sights." Lovely.

What a great shot! It must have been quite something to see in person.

That's a gorgeous shot of the bridge! And your dinner looks great - made me hungry right away and I just had breakfast!

Your photographs are so gorgeous you can even make oysters look appealing and I don't like shellfish. And the harbor is beautiful. It makes me wish we had the opportunity to travel to Australia.

That's a wonderful picture of the bridge. I visited Sydney 18 years ago (time flies) and remember the Opera House and the bridge as two of the highlights.

Dream vacation for my husband and I ... Australia and The Great Barrier Reef ... maybe when we hit Lotto! In the meantime, that's a killer shot of the harbor!

That is a gorgeous photo of the bridge! The food looks pretty too, even though I don't like oysters.

This is how I feel about the Golden Gate Bridge--I lived in San Francisco for four years, so I saw it MANY times...but some things just stay thrilling! Your bridge is beautiful. :)
