Houston Sculptures

Sometimes you drive down an average suburban street and see something that isn't quite average, or quite suburban. And you know that you need to stop and investigate further. I'm so glad we did. I got to have a brief chat with Mark Bradford "Scrap Daddy", who turns scrap metal into amazing creatures, most of which are cars that actually go! There is an astonishing amount of work in each sculpture. Cutting, beating, welding pieces of metal into his incredible creatures. Some are even made from spoons discarded by the airline industry when they stopped using real cutlery.

Those are so creative. That is a sight that would definitely make me stop and look twice. The detail is amazing. Love that spoon creature.

Crikey! Wouldn't it be great to own one and put it in your front garden? :)

What a great way to recycle metal, much more fun than just leaving it in a scrap heap.

Oh, I love sculptures! And when they are made from "found" objects, they are even better.

I once lived in a "near ghost town" that had been big during the oil days. After the oil was gone, someone painted animals on the oil rigs, so as you passed them, it was like seeing a metal zoo.

Those sculptures are so awesome, I'm going to make a point of going to see them next time I'm visiting home. My brothers would love it. Thanks for sharing.

It's great what you find when you stop to take a closer look.

I wonder if you were taken to the Orange Show when you were in Houston. The Orange Show is the creation of a Houston postman as a tribute to his favorite fruit. Yes, it is just as you are imagining. Not really something you should have missed...write it down on your list for your next trip to Houston.
