December 6 Top Ten Childhood Faves

Of course this is going to be a subject close to my heart. I loved reading as a kid. Love reading now. And I particularly love reading kids books as an adult. Indeed I embarked on a quest nearly 2 years ago to read 1001 Children's Books You Must Read Before You Grow Up. So much so that I started my own Yahoo reading group for like minded souls to gather.

I have such a strong visual memory of the illustrations of this book

And this one

I know I read this repeatedly

It's kind of odd to realise that I read so many books that were from a series. I'm not that into reading series of books now, and would generally much rather read stand alone books.

And most interestingly not an Aussie amongst them! I'm glad that's changed.

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists here at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

I loved Nancy Drew, too! She didn't make it on to my list, but definitely an Honorable Mention! I love how 'Put Me Int The Zoo' was the first listed!
Thanks for stopping by my blog.

I went through a Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew phase. I can't remember any favorites among them though.

I was a big Famous Five fan as well and I read a few Nancy Drew's.

I just realised that I should read 'Milly Molly Mandy' seeing as I regularly call my dog Milly that.

I pretty well loved all of those 'I can read it by myself' books with the Cat in the Hat logo, but my all time favourite is 'Go Dog Go', closely followed by 'Are you my Mother?'

Third is The Tiger who came to tea, holding equal place with Beatrix Potter everything and - to be a bit different - Fungus the Bogeyman.

*sniffle* - I might now trawl the net to see if I can find any of the adorable drawings....

i loved Nancy Drews (the series made my list), anything by Enid Blyton (again I cheated!!), and What Katy Did (made my list as well). I loved Hardy Boys as well but they did not quite make my list..

Can you believe I've never read a Nancy Drew book? I should probably remedy that soon.

I discovered Milly Molly Mandy when my daughter was little. We read them over and over. They're so sweet. And oddly enough, it was my son who was the Nancy Drew fan. (The computer games sucked him in, then the books.) They've moved on to Harry Potter and Hunger Games etc. which are fun, too. But I'm holding onto the oldies until I can read them again.

All the research shows that kids who go on to love reading as adults go through a big series reading phase. Sometimes it's not quality, but quantity, I suppose.

As a kid, I read everything Trixie and Put Me in the Zoo, but nothing else from your list. Never saw any of the Enid Blyton books until I was a grownup. My mom tried to get me to read Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew but I never took to them.
