Electrolux Cool Art Exhibition

I do like an art exhibition. Recently I went to a rather unique one.

The Electrolux factory in Orange is due to close in 2016. This exhibition was looking back at its 70 years of manufacturing history. The exhibition included work by school students and established local artists, many of them from Colour City Creatives. The materials they used were often unique too- fridge doors and waste materials from the manufacturing process.

The school kids did interesting work on their fridge doors.

The fridges painted by established artists were fabulous. It made me wonder why all fridges aren't painted.

Many local artists made responses to the factory, often telling quite personal stories.

I would never have thought it possible to make art from a vegetable crisper. But it was indeed very cool!

And these particularly cool lights made from waste! Plastic extruded from pipes when the materials were changed.

  1. I love seeing creative displays of art...my fridge has a lot of magnets and photos on it, and that's my version. LOL

  2. I love the idea of covering a refrigerator door with a painting. The ones you've photographed are amazing and would add a unique touch to any kitchen. Maybe this will start a trend! Will you start with your kitchen?

  3. You always find the most fascinating art, Louise.

Side note: My husband (before he was my husband) decided to paint a flag on his refrigerator. Let's just say the result would have never shown up in an art exhibition.

  4. I loved the painted fridge doors - the seascape would look lovely in my kitchen!
I'll have to let my sisters know about this exhibition (if they don't already).

  5. What a great idea for an exhibition. I guess most fridge doors have art on in some form, but nothing quite like that.

  6. Imagine if art canvases were regularly made from everyday materials. Not only would the environment get helped, but we would have unique artwork. I like!
