Le Tour de France Exposition 2013

Yippee. The 101st Tour de France starts today. In England. Yes, England. This most French of traditions doesn't always start in France! Tonight we're sitting in our cozy lounge room in Australia, watching the first stage from Leeds to Harrogate.

Last year we were in Paris for the tour, but I didn't really see any of it at all. Naturally the racing was on during the day, and we were very busy out and about being tourists. There was an exhibition on the fence of the gorgeous Jardin du Luxembourg to celebrate the 100th Tour de France.

In 2103 Le Tour started in Corsica/Corse

The photos were a fascinating history, both of cycling itself,
and this most fascinating of events.

Everyone interacted with it in some way

  4. How fun! The ride makes me nervous to watch it - having crashed in a tight bike line up before. :)

  7. Interesting! I often enjoy the exhibitions and the people more than the actual event.

  8. Funny, but I remember both the Tour and the World Cup going on around the time we were in France four years ago. I need to talk to my nephew (he's a biker) and see how much coverage there is here in the US.

  10. I was lucky enough to be in Paris two years ago when the Tour ended -- complete madness in the streets around the Louvre as the cyclists did their laps! The atmosphere was amazing.

  12. OOh - i love le tour! We were there in 2011 to watch our Aussie Hero win on the Champs Elysee.... That's going to be a lifetime highlight for us. We watch it all month(despite it ruining our sleeping habit for the month!). Thanks for starting le tour posts for the season! And I love the serendipity of street side exhibitions like this. Great post.
