The Squirrels of London

We've just spent the better part of a week in London, it was our first visit. One of the highlights for all of us was delighting to the antics of the many squirrels in the local parks. We don't have squirrels in Australia so they are a particular joy for us to see, even if those who live with them regard them as nuisances.

But they're just so cute.

No matter what they're doing.

And so acrobatic!

Of course we weren't the only squirrel fans. Many people feed them, they're clearly quite used to people.

Despite all the requests not to feed them. We came across at least half a dozen people deliberately feeding them on our little walks through St James Park and Hyde Park.

The squirrels of London are all introduced Grey Squirrels

Saturday Snapshot is a wonderful weekly meme now hosted by West Metro Mommy

  1. St James Park is one of my favourites.
When I lived in London back in '91 I spent many a lazy Sunday lying on a deckchair, listening to the church bells, watching the bands parade up the Mall and laughing at the squirrels.
Your pics just brought back a stack of good memories :-)

  2. Oh squirrels are just the cutest, but I've never seen them so friendly towards people, climbing on them wow! Down here (Cornwall) they tend to be a little jumpy.

  3. I love your photos. We have masses of squirrels in the area where I live, even though it is urbanised, and they move so quickly they are difficult to capture on camera, but I could sit and watch them for hours. My Snapshot is at http://goo.gl/s0KyN

  5. Squirrels are entertaining to watch. It's strange to think of not having them skittering out in the road in front of the car. Here's Mine

  7. I suppose when you don't see them all the time they can be cute. The youngsters are adorable. I have a walnut tree and bird feeders in my yard so I have lots and lots of squirrel visitors. Most are well behaved and eat the dropped seed and nuts, but every once in a while I get a crazy squirrel who will stop at nothing to get into a feeder.

  9. You don't have squirrels in Australia? O I'm glad you had a fun time with the squirrels in London. They sure look chubbier than the ones I see here in Calgary, AB. Canada. Thanks for these fun pics!

  11. Squirrels are neat! We have a lot of trees on our property and they love to jump from one to another. My dog loves chasing them back up the tree when the come close to the ground.

  12. Our population waxes and wanes, as we have many of their natural enemies living in close proximity ... we also have competing populations of red and grey squirrels ... one thing we notice is just how intelligent they are at solving problems (like how to raid our bird feeders) ... the rascals! You have caught them in so many different situations ... good job!

  15. Squirrels are having a good year in our yard in Missouri this year. I don't think they'd let me get that close for photos, though.
