Birds in my Backyard

It's always exciting to get avian visitors in the backyard. Recently we've been seeing quite a few of these two:


European Goldfinch. Carduelis carduelis

 As we are such excellent gardeners we have lots of dandelions in the lawn which the Galahs love to eat

Galah. Eolophus roseicapilla

    That parrot is gorgeous. The goldfinch is way different than the yellow ones we have in North America. You have a wonderful assortment of colorful birds... I'm jealous!

    Lovely. Our cardinals are beginning to show up occasionally but not fully yet. I have seen more bluebirds this year, however. I love trying to spot birds I can actually recognize!

    Amazing bird shots! I never see anything like these birds in my patio, but then again, I don't go out there very often. As it cools down, I will.

    Gorgeous shots! I especially like the goldfinch--which has much cooler markings than the goldfinches around here.

    Those are both such unusual and beautiful birds! I wish I had some sort of justification for growing so many dandelions in my yard!

    Hi Louise,

    Some lovely pictures which definitely brought a smile to my face, with the appropriate timing of your post.

    My niece and her husband have just returned from their honeymoon in Australia and amongst their several hundred snaps, are several of some lovely Cockatiels!!

    Nothing unusual you might think, but as they were unaware that in Australia Cockatiels are equivalent in number and nuisance value to our UK pigeon, my niece on spotting her first cockatiel was heard to say very loudly, for the benefit of everyone in their group, that someone should try to catch this beautiful and no doubt expensive bird and return it to its owner before it got hurt!

    We don't have quite so many exotic birds frequenting our garden, although finches of many varieties are a common sight during the winter months and we have just spotted a pair of owls and a pair of woodpeckers, which have set up home in the large oak tree behind our place.
