It felt so new to me, almost like an invented language and world.

Every day I feel more and more despair about my America. When the crows finish carrying off they can, and the vultures swoop down, what will be left of my country? I did go, but only on the weekend. Mind you, I’ve only read it recently, and thought it very good. I did wonder, while reading, how a girl whose parents were a grocer and a nurse got to go to such an expensive private school, along with both siblings. Even with a part scholarship. It’s not just the fees, either, these schools expect you to buy horribly expensive equipment and assume you will go on horribly expensive excursions. It kind of jarred, for me, with the references to poverty. But every novel has glitches! It was otherwise well deserving of all the fuss.

You’re right about the gun culture, and maybe a writer who has grown up in a country with such a strong gun culture does take it for granted, even if she doesn’t like it. Pamela of the Pamelibrarian blog speaks of the stress of going to a school where you have to do drills just in case some looney rushes in and starts shooting, where there are bars like a prison for the same reason. It’s a nasty culture! Sue Bursztynskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09362273418897882971noreply@blogger.com
